Cupcakes and Rainbows

This weekend we celebrated the 80th birthday of my great aunt! This woman is the glue of our family and honestly deserves the world. But since I can't give the world I give cupcakes! Flower cupcakes and a 3 layer chocolate and vanilla cake adorned with matching flowers. Let's get down to business shall we?

For some reason it takes me hours to get into the groove. I can bake like a champ but once I have to decorate I think I just get so worked up and worried something horrible will go wrong that I have to walk away. So I started with a crumb coat and chill... See what I did there?!

After it chilled I went ahead and threw on my final coat of buttercream and then I had to walk away. Now I love looking at other people'd designs but when I try and make it myself I get frustrated and end up walking away or destroying a perfectly delicious cake. I can back and just started piping flowers I wanted and really just kind of winging it. What's life if you don't wing it once and a while.
